Varco International Inc.: The Orange-based manufacturer of oil- and-gas drilling equipment said net income for the third quarter increased 86% to $13.4 million, or 41 cents a share, from $7.2 million, or 22 cents a share, for the comparable quarter of 1996. Revenue advanced 43% to $140.4 million from $98.1 million. Nine-month net income nearly doubled to $31.6 million, or 97 cents a share, from $15.9 million, or 50 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue gained 43% to $371.1 million from $259.4 million.
