Share

For the first time, Mission College will combine its semiannual “Focus on Careers” program with a job fair, school officials said.

The free, half-day event is open to the public. It will take place in the school’s Campus Center and Instructional Building Atrium between 9:30 a.m. and noon on Wednesday.

Focus on Careers, which is held once each semester on the Sylmar campus, consists of a series of seminars on such subjects as interviewing techniques and writing effective resumes.

Representatives from the school’s academic, vocational and technical programs will be on hand to answer questions and present an overview of 21st century career trends and educational opportunities at Mission, officials said.

“The job fair will include employers from both the public and private sectors,” said Geri Shapiro, director of the college’s New Horizons reentry program.

Among the private employers scheduled to attend are Sears, Roebuck & Co., Macy’s, Northwest Airlines and Just Right Help Inc., an employment agency.

Public and nonprofit agencies include the Los Angeles and Glendale police departments, the Los Angeles Fire Department, Northeast Valley Health Corp., the Economic Development Department and San Fernando Valley Neighborhood Services.
