From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Crime victims in New York City now can call a telephone hotline to learn where their attackers are being held and when they are released from prison, authorities said. Anyone may use the new automated system, a spokesman for the city’s Department of Correction said. Callers can use a toll-free number to determine an inmate’s custody status, the department said. If callers register for a password, the system’s computer will call within 10 minutes of an inmate’s release.
