The city’s finance director has resigned in the midst of an annual outside audit by an accounting firm, city officials said Monday.

Louis Delgado, who previously served as deputy city manager, tendered his resignation by telephone last Wednesday and gave written notice Friday, said City Manager Alex Armento. Delgado could not be reached for comment.

Armento, however, said Delgado told him he had been offered another position “and needed to start somewhere else immediately. He told me he had one opportunity locally and another in Sacramento.”

Delgado’s departure coincides with an audit being conducted by a certified public accounting firm hired by the city, Armento said.

Armento declined to comment on whether the audit has revealed any problems in the finance department.
