Cigarette Tax Plans
Re “3 Groups Launch Separate Efforts to Raise Cigarette Tax,” Oct. 17: It’s such an interesting spectacle watching our celebrities leading a feeding frenzy to raise cigarette taxes. I would be fascinated to learn how a Rob Reiner determines which of us should pay more taxes and in what amounts.
I’m surprised that the deaths, rapes, broken families and child abuse directly attributed to alcohol don’t rate similar attention. For that matter, what about a tax on movie tickets? I think a case could be made that Hollywood has destroyed as many souls as tobacco has destroyed lungs.
