Civil Rights Festival Will Feature Movie Premiere

The parking lot of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee will be turned into an huge outdoor theater as the Los Angeles premiere of the movie “Ill Gotten Gains” highlights a weekend celebration of the 4th annual Civil Rights Festival.

“It’s going to be like a big drive-in with no cars,” said event organizer Janine Watkins, who estimates that 1,000 people will attend the showing of the movie, which is about a slave ship from Africa coming to America.

The festival also will include live entertainment, information booths and speeches touching on the current state of civil rights issues.
