Live-In Art Studio Ordinance Advances

The City Council has moved closer to adopting an ordinance that would allow artists to live in their studio space.

Council members gave preliminary approval to the ordinance last week and will make a final decision at their Tuesday meeting.

Officials say the ordinance would offer artists an affordable way to live and provide an incentive to remain in the community.

The council also considered a recommendation to approve an affordable housing project at 450 Glenneyre St. for low-income workers.

Council members said they need more information before making a decision.

“If people are working here, they should be able to live here as opposed to possibly living in Santa Ana and having to make three bus transfers to get here,” Mayor Paul Freeman said.
