Council Backs Plan for Skateboard Parks

Share

City Council members unanimously approved a plan Monday night to allow skateboard parks in industrial areas of Simi Valley. If final approval is given in a vote next week, a related zoning ordinance would allow Todd Huber and his company, STB Productions Inc., to open a skateboard park and museum on Valley Fair Street.

A skateboarding enthusiast and Simi Valley resident, Huber says the 15,400-square-foot park would provide teens and other children with a “long overdue” alternative to hanging out and boredom.

“Since the kids have never had a place to go to skate, they’re virtually made criminals,” he said. “No kid should feel like a criminal for doing what they love.”

Huber, 32, hopes to open his California Skate Lab and Museum by Christmas.

In addition to having plenty of ramps for skaters, Huber’s park also would display his skateboard collection, which he calls one of the world’s largest.
