L.A. Suicide Prevention Center

There is “help in crisis.” I am responding to Nance Parry’s Oct. 24 letter, in which she described her desperate situation and her frustrated attempts to find a crisis hotline. The Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center, of the Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center, is always available for people in crisis. We operate 24 hours a day. We do not use an answering machine or an answering service.

Unfortunately, limited funding hinders our ability to be listed in the many phone books of Los Angeles County. We are listed in the beginning of most phone books in the Community Service Section under Suicide Prevention Services. Our crisis line number is (310) 391-1253. The same number can be used for information about volunteering or making a donation to expand our public awareness campaign. Help is here at the L.A. Suicide Prevention Center.
