Trustee Unbiased
* I would like to clarify a few comments in your Oct. 20 article on the upcoming Orange Unified school board election. My father, James Fearns, was described as being on the liberal, union-sponsored side of the board. As a man who served over 20 years in the Marine Corps, followed by 20 years in law enforcement, my father can hardly be characterized as “liberal.” Although he has supported several proposals favored by the teachers union (particularly those relating to smaller class sizes), he has also advocated a back-to-basics curriculum. He votes his own mind, not some ideological “party line.”
