Snow Helps Giants to 8-2 Victory

OAKLAND — J.T. Snow drove in four runs to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 8-2 victory over Oakland on Monday night before 50,792 fans, the largest crowd in Athletics’ history.

Snow, who had four hits and a walk, had a two-run single in the fifth inning and a two-run double in the ninth. He is hitting .400 with nine homers and 20 runs batted in through 15 interleague games.

Barry Bonds hit his 32nd homer, a solo shot in the ninth. Jeff Kent and Mark Lewis added RBI singles and Brian Johnson had a sacrifice fly for the Giants.

Kirk Rueter (10-6) earned the victory, giving up two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Matt Stairs hit his 26th leading off the Oakland sixth. Jason Giambi added an RBI single for the A’s.

The A’s loaded the bases with one out in the eighth off reliever Roberto Hernandez, but Scott Spiezio popped out to shortstop and pinch-hitter Dave Magadan grounded to short.

The game was the Giants’ first regular-season contest at the Oakland Coliseum, which is across San Francisco Bay from the Giants’ home park. The A’s had been averaging 15,640 fans per home game.

Andrew Lorraine (2-1) gave up three runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings for the A’s, the shortest start of his career. Oakland has lost five in a row and 12 of 15.

The Giants are 10-5 in interleague play. The A’s are 6-9 against NL teams.
