What Are You Drinking

Share

For my 60th birthday, we opened a bottle of 1845 Tokayi that came out of my wife’s grandfather’s wine cellar. It came in a handblown bottle with a note that it was imported by A. Porges in New York, but otherwise there wasn’t much information. It was obviously a botrytised wine and it was still completely alive, full of almonds and honey. What’s really amazing is to think about what was happening in 1845: Florida had just been admitted as the 13th state and the Gold Rush hadn’t even happened yet. What else can you eat or drink that’s 150 years old?
