Replacement Sought for Commissioner

Share

Camarillo is seeking a person interested in representing the city on the Ventura County Area Housing Authority Commission.

The commission, which oversees low-income housing, is comprised of two representatives from each city it serves, including Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

“The commission is responsible for establishing the overall mission and policies of the housing authority,” said Doug Tapking, the authority’s executive director.

The commission meets once a month on the fourth Wednesday at 4 p.m. for approximately three hours. Subcommittee meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays.

Commissioners receive a stipend for attendance at not more than four meetings per month of the commission or committee of which they are appointed. The stipend cannot exceed $50 per day or $200 per month, the highest amount allowed by state law. Board members raised their maximum monthly stipend from $100 to $200 last December.

The individual selected by the City Council will serve out the remaining term of Sharon Pfeifer, who resigned last month when she moved out of Camarillo. The term ends April 24, 2000.

Pfeifer’s resignation came nine months after it was discovered she had billed the housing authority $10 per hour for baby-sitting services while she attended meetings.

Applications are available at the City Hall on Carmen Drive at the city clerk’s office.
