Tropical Storm Erika Heads Toward Caribbean

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Erika developed Wednesday in the Atlantic Ocean and was heading westward toward the Caribbean, weather forecasters said.
Erika is the fifth tropical storm of a hurricane season that experts predicted would be fierce but has so far been largely uneventful.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said Erika was expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours. It was packing maximum winds of 40 mph.
