The City Council has officially accepted the resignation of Jerry M. Patterson, who has served as city attorney since the community’s incorporation in 1991.
Although he will leave Lake Forest effective Oct. 1, Patterson, 62, will remain available to the city as a consultant.
Patterson was a onetime Santa Ana councilman and a five-term congressman from the 46th District and is managing partner of the Costa Mesa law firm Burke, Williams and Sorensen, which provides legal services to Lake Forest.
The council appointed Greg Diaz, who has served as assistant city attorney, as Patterson’s replacement.
