Not-Guilty Plea in Attempted Rape

A security guard accused of assaulting and attempting to rape a Newport Coast woman--before she pistol-whipped him with his own gun and escaped--pleaded not guilty Monday.

Michael Guddy, 21, claims he is innocent of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted rape charges stemming from a Sept. 1 attack on a 26-year-old woman who attempted to enter the un-incorporated neighborhood at Vista Ridge Road.

When the woman pulled up to a security gate at 2 a.m., an attacker allegedly drew his gun and attempted to handcuff her, Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said. She fought back and hit him with the weapon before escaping to call for help.

South Orange County Municipal Court Judge Carl Biggs set a Sept. 25 pretrial hearing in Laguna Niguel for the case. Guddy is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, a court clerk said.
