Academy Chief to Be Feted at Golden West

Golden West College’s Criminal Justice Training Center will host a welcoming reception for Chief Dave Barr, the police academy’s new director, from 2 to 4 p.m. today.

Barr, who retired as La Palma’s police chief in July after a 32-year career in law enforcement, was selected to lead the police academy for about 18 months as a temporary assignment.

Barr, 53, has taught courses at Golden West since 1988.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to help others build their careers,” Barr said. “I hope to help another generation of law enforcement officers achieve its goals.”
