Cleary Recovering: Former Cal State Northridge President James W. Cleary is recovering from open-heart surgery in which doctors performed a five-way bypass on Tuesday. Cleary, 70, is “doing just fine, so far,” said his wife, Mary. Cleary also underwent a quintuple bypass in the 1980s. He retired to Boise, Idaho, after leading CSUN from 1969 to 1992.
