Mother Teresa’s Spirit Will Live On in Vigil
A candlelight vigil for Mother Teresa will be held tonight at Main Beach Park, the site of a similar memorial for Princess Diana eight days ago.
Beth Leeds, a local environmentalist who organized the vigil for Diana, said people encouraged her to plan a vigil for the Nobel Peace Prize-winning nun. Mother Teresa, who devoted her life to helping the poor, died of a heart attack Sept. 5. The princess of Wales died Aug. 31 after a car crash in Paris.
The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a candle and a can of food or a toy for a needy child.
“Let Mother Teresa’s work continue with us,” Leeds said.
