Rookie Rosa Knows the Score

Share

Right wing Pavel Rosa may be the most watched player in the Kings’ training camp. Last season, Rosa led all of the junior hockey leagues in scoring with 153 points, and the Kings are looking for him to bolster the team’s scoring this season.

“I think that I have a pretty good chance [of making the final roster],” said Rosa, 20, a second-round pick in 1995. “I know [the Kings] need someone to score the goals and that’s my job. I will try and make the team by continuing [to do] what I do well.”

With Vitali Yachmenev still unsigned and not in camp, Rosa has received plenty of ice time working behind NHL veterans Glen Murray and Sandy Moger. He is expected to play on a line with center Jozef Stumpel and left wing Craig Johnson in tonight’s exhibition game against San Jose at the San Diego Sports Arena.

The Kings’ two first-round draft picks, center Olli Jokinen and left wing Matt Zultek, have shown good skating ability in practice this week. Jokinen, 6 feet 2 and 208 pounds, will start tonight centering a line with Luc Robitaille at left wing and Murray. Zultek, 6-4 and 220, will play with Moger on a line centered by Yanic Perreault, who is healthy after being injured most of last season. . . . Stephane Fiset will start in goal tonight.
