High-Flying Fees

Thank you for bringing to light the disingenuous advertising of Home Savings [“Looking Back, Home Savings Ads Just Miss,” Sept. 4].

The bank discarded its retro TV campaign after accepting the fact that people do not trust a bank that purports to find no value in the benefit of modern financial services, but would rather offer banking “like it used to be.” Yeah, right. Now we are being asked to think of Home Savings as a wise and caring institution that is “in the business of helping people live better lives.”

If so, they should explain the outrageous $25 monthly service charge on their Money Market account if the balance falls below $25,000 and the $1.50 charge to non-customers who use their ATMs. How is this improving our lives?
