Robert Dornan

Just read about the barring of [former Rep.] Bob Dornan from the House floor (“House Unites to Bar Dornan After Diatribe,” Sept. 19). I have a question: What is Dornan doing hanging around the House floor anyway? Didn’t he get defeated last November? Does Dornan have a life?

The House is to be commended on finally recognizing the radical nature of this loose cannon and trying to re-instill some dignity and decorum in the House of Representatives.

I suggest Dornan stop acting like a child who didn’t get his way, go back home and get a real job. He simply was beaten by a better candidate (certainly one more in tune with the needs of her district).

* Poor Dornan! His district got tired of him and threw him out. His old buddies got tired of him and threw him out. What part of “go away” do you suppose Dornan doesn’t get?

* House members made a terrible mistake when they voted overwhelmingly to temporarily banish Dornan from their chambers. They should have made the ban permanent.

* There he goes again, that grating Dornan. This time hectoring a hapless New Jersey congressman for being in Dornan’s words “a whiny little boy . . . just another disloyal Catholic” (Sept. 18).

Using religious dogma for a bully’s club to beat up a U.S. representative with differing public policy views on the House floor is a chilly breach in the wall of separation between church and state. Dornan is more than annoying; he’s a religious extremist.

* I was really concerned that after Dornan’s defeat by Loretta Sanchez I would be deprived of Dornan’s zany wit, keen observations and perfectly timed pratfalls that made him my favorite comedian in Congress. I see now that I had nothing to worry about.
