O’Connell to Meet With Constituents
Sen. Jack O’Connell, who has been holding “card table” office hours on the streets of his district since 1982, will hold court curbside in Santa Paula and Ojai on Monday afternoon.
Residents can meet O’Connell from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Santa Paula at Veterans Memorial Park, across from City Hall on Ventura Street, and in Ojai from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in front of the Ojai Library, 111 E. Ojai Ave.
The state legislator has been greeting constituents from a card table set up on street corners since he won an Assembly seat 15 years ago. When elected to the Senate in 1994, the San Luis Obispo Democrat continued the tradition.
People line up to ask about everything from pending legislation to potholes, O’Connell’s aides said. If O’Connell can’t find the answers in the box of reference books he totes around, he writes down the constituent’s question and mails a response.
