Legal Aid Offered to Low-Income Seniors
Low-income seniors who need legal help with Social Security, consumer fraud and other issues may apply for appointments to meet with a legal representative Thursday at a senior center.
All low-income Los Angeles residents who are at least 60 are eligible for free legal services. Priority will be given to people in the greatest economic need so applicants will be asked to provide information on income and resources.
Those who are given appointments will meet with a legal representative from Bet Tzedek, the House of Justice, on Thursday at the Northeast Valley Multipurpose Senior Center, 11300 Glenoaks Blvd..
To make an appointment, interested seniors should call Amelia Peak at (818) 834-6100 between 8 a.m. to noon.
Bet Tzedek specializes in problems dealing with Medi-Cal/Medicare, government benefits, home equity fraud, landlord-tenant issues and long-term care issues, including in-home supportive services, nursing home problems and board and care problems. Seniors who qualify are given full representation at trials, administrative hearings and appeals.
Assistance is not available for criminal defense, immigration or divorce and no legal advice will be given over the phone.
Bet Tzedek is a nonprofit law center specializing in the legal problems of the low-income, elderly and disabled.
