Country Days to Celebrate City’s Roots
Residents of this small but growing bedroom community will have an opportunity today to take part in an old-fashioned celebration.
The city will block off its main streets and return to its agricultural roots with its 18th annual Country Days festival.
Amid 100 hay bales hauled onto High Street and surrounding roads, the town will celebrate its heritage with a parade, western cookout and mix of entertainment.
The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, kicks off at 7 a.m. at the City Hall Community Center with a pancake breakfast benefiting the American Legion.
Throughout the day, residents will be able to munch on western cooking, ride ponies, and view arts and crafts booths.
The highlight of the festival will be a parade, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at Chaparral Middle School and makes its way to High Street.
Breaking from tradition, the festival will also offer more activities for teenagers, including a talent show and pizza-eating contest.
