MURPHYS--The Grape Stomp is among juicy activities Saturday at Gold Rush Day. At Murphys Park, on Algiers Street, two-member teams will each have three minutes to stomp 25 pounds of grapes. There will also be live music, belly-dancing performances, wine tasting ($5 for glass and three tastes) and more. HANFORD--Lion dancers and Japanese drummers will fill China Alley, in front of the Taoist Temple, on Saturday for the 18th annual Moon Festival, noon-5 p.m. There will be Chinese food and crafts for sale; calligraphy and tai chi demonstrations; an exhibit of bonsai trees; and tours of the temple and museum. MORRO BAY--Visitors can sample seafood and sip wine to the sounds of live music at next weekend’s Harbor Festival. Barbershop quartets and jazz, reggae, blues and other acts will perform on seven stages. Fare for sale ($3 an entree) will include rock shrimp, crawfish, mussels and ceviche. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Beach Street and the Embarcadero. $5, 12 and under free. $10 for wine glass and six wine-tasting tickets. TRONA--The town named for a mineral hosts Gem-O-Rama, Oct. 11 and 12. There will be tours of Searles Lake to collect trona, borax and other minerals. About 21 gem and mineral dealers will display their wares at the Lapidary and Show Building, 13337 Main St., where there will be children’s games, a trough for panning gold and more. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 11; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 12. BIG BEAR LAKE--A woman who carried 15 beer steins--75 pounds--was named queen of last year’s Oktoberfest. Contestants will vie in the weighty contest again this year. Other highlights of the German-flavored fest include a log-sawing contest; music and dancing; and vendors selling arts, crafts and food.
