More than 25 nonprofit organizations will participate in the Community Day Health Fair Saturday at the Fallbrook Mall.

The American Cancer Society, Big Brothers of Greater L.A. and other organizations will be setting up information booths at the mall between the JCPenney Catalog Outlet store and the children’s play area in front of Mervyn’s.

The purpose of the biannual event is to increase public awareness of the participating organizations, said Kelly Schachner, marketing director at the mall, which has hosted the fair since 1994.

First-time participants include the Los Angeles Police Department, Walden Family Services, a foster family agency and the environmental group TreePeople, which will set up an arts and crafts booth for children, she said.

Another first-time participant is the Los Angeles Radio Reading Service, a public radio station broadcasting to visually impaired listeners in the Valley via Cal State Northridge radio station KCSN-FM (88.5).

Station director and founder Jolie Mason said the station will conduct a live broadcast from the fair. She said the program can be picked up by radios specially adapted for the 67kHz sub-carrier of the KCSN signal.

“We do remote broadcasting at community events so that those who are blind can learn about different opportunities in their community,” Mason said.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the mall, 6633 Fallbrook Ave., between Victory Boulevard and Vanowen Street.
