Times business writer Russ Stanton has been named business editor of the Times Orange County edition.

He succeeds Michael Young, who last month became managing editor of the edition.

“Russ is a talented journalist with a wealth of experience in Orange County,” Young said Monday.

A veteran reporter and editor, Stanton, 39, joined the Times Orange County edition business staff in November, covering the region’s sprawling retail industry. He previously worked at the Orange County Register, San Bernardino Sun, Riverside Press Enterprise and the Visalia Times-Delta.

Stanton was business editor at the Register from 1995 until joining The Times last year.

As business editor of the Times Orange County edition, he will lead a staff of 13 reporters and editors who cover the county’s business community and regularly contribute to the paper’s prize-winning coverage of state and national business and economic issues.

“I’m looking forward to building on The Times’ great tradition of providing in-depth reporting and analysis of news and trends that are important to both business readers and consumers,” Stanton said.

A 1981 graduate of Cal State Sacramento, Stanton holds a dual degree in government and journalism. In addition to retailing, he has covered real estate, personal finance, manufacturing and the retail industry during his 17-year career.

He and his wife, Jennifer, are residents of Orange.
