UCLA Expects to Sign Forward Rush, USC to Get Guard Granville

Today is the first day of the spring signing period for high school basketball seniors, and UCLA Coach Steve Lavin is expecting 6-foot-7 JaRon Rush of Pembroke Hill High in Kansas City, Mo., to sign a national letter of intent.

UCLA also is pursuing 6-11 Dan Gadzuric of Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, Mass. Gadzuric, who grew up in the Netherlands, is considered the top center prospect in the nation. California, Kentucky and Kansas also have been recruiting him.

Last November, UCLA signed 6-4 Ray Young of Alameda St. Joseph’s Notre Dame and 6-7 Matt Barnes of Fair Oaks Del Campo. The Bruins also have a commitment from 6-10 Jerome Moiso of France, but he is still trying to get an NCAA qualifying score.

USC is expected to sign 5-8 point guard Brandon Granville, who helped Westchester High to the L.A. City Section 4-A championship and a state title. He averaged 12 points and 10 assists last season.

Another Westchester player, forward David Bluthenthal, committed to USC in November, as did forward Sam Clancy of St. Edward’s High in Lakewood, Ohio, and two junior college players, guard Quincy Wilder and forward Brian Scalabrine of Highline College in Des Moines, Wash.
