Applications Available for New Housing Project

Share

Applications are available for senior citizen and family apartments in a community that is sprouting up where an abandoned high-rise was razed last year.

Lark Ellen Village, with a community center, pool and recreation facility, will open in July on the site formerly occupied by the decaying Lark Ellen Towers.

It will provide 122 apartments and townhouses, available for rent to senior citizens and families with low to moderate incomes, officials said. The City Council decided last year to provide $4.2 million to build the village at Lark Ellen Avenue and San Bernardino Road.

Developer Thomas Saffran & Associates also obtained state and federal funding for the project.

There will be 88 one-bedroom apartments, five two-bedroom apartments, 24 three-bedroom apartments and five four-bedroom townhouses. Rents will range from $377 to $825 a month.

Applications can be obtained from the West Covina Senior Center, 2501 E. Cortez Ave., from Monday through April 27. The center is open on weekdays from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
