A 17-year-old Lancaster girl was killed and five other teens were injured late Friday night when the sports-utility vehicle they were riding in overturned, police said.

The girl, who was not identified, was ejected from the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder and pronounced dead at the scene, California Highway Patrol Officer Gary Butler said.

She had been seated in the rear of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the 10:50 p.m. accident, Butler said.

The Pathfinder was traveling east about 60 mph on Avenue I, near the intersection of 110th Street, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, police said. The driver, Guadalupe Vasquez, 18, of Lancaster, suffered moderate injuries and was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital and released.

The four other youths, all from Burbank, were taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor scrapes to serious head trauma, authorities said.

Butler said an investigation was continuing, but that drugs, alcohol or weather did not appear to be factors in the accident.
