Re “Fuhrman, a Good Bad Example,” editorial, April 6: I do not condone the bad behavior of [former LAPD detective] Mark Fuhrman that has been alleged before 1988. The LAPD found 29 possible instances between 1977 and 1988 involving Fuhrman and other officers. It does not say that they found 29 instances involving Fuhrman.

I worked as a volunteer from 1988 to 1995 at the West Los Angeles Police Department in the Detective Division where Fuhrman worked and have a different opinion of Fuhrman and the men and women in that division.

During that period, I saw Fuhrman as a very professional officer. When he came to work, he always took his jacket off; this you may have noticed from pictures at the murder scene. Where did he hide the glove?

The meticulous notes that he took at the murder scene were nothing special, that was the way he did things. As a witness he was very thorough in his answers. Unfortunately, he misspoke.

The O.J. Simpson case was lost because of the jury. Are we so pure that we can truly fault others?
