Santa Clara Wins It in the Seventh

Paul Macen tripled in Danny Chaparro with the tying run and scored on David Ramirez’s flyout in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Santa Clara defeated Nordhoff, 7-6, in a Frontier League game Monday.

Santa Clara (5-6, 2-4) rallied with five runs in the sixth to tie the score, 5-5. Ramirez had a three-run double and Terrance Dotsy had a two-run double in the inning.

Brian Bronk pitched five scoreless innings for Nordhoff (6-5, 2-2), holding Santa Clara to two hits and striking out six.

Camarillo 4, Orange Lutheran 0--Garrett Valencia drove in all the runs for the Scorpions (11-3) in a pool-play game of the Corona del Mar tournament.

Valencia hit a two-run single in the first inning and a two-run home run in the third.

Joe Yingling (2-2) pitched six innings for Camarillo, allowing five hits and striking out four.

Crespi 11, Bishop Montgomery 0--Luke Worgan had a three-run home run and a run-scoring double for Crespi (12-3-1) in a St. Paul tournament game at Valley College called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Andy Campanella drove in two runs with three hits, including a double, and scored three times.

Mike Jackson (4-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Notre Dame 5, Atascadero 0--John Puccinelli had a three-run home run for Notre Dame (10-3-1) in the sixth inning and scored from second base on Ryan Stonerock’s fifth-inning single in an Atascadero-Paso Robles tournament game.

Kevin Jerkens and Joel Kirsten combined on a three-hitter. Jerkens pitched six innings, allowing the hits, striking out eight and walking two.

Royal 13, Bolsa Grande 0--Bobby Egan, Joe Wilson, Jason Bowers and Matt Betancourt hit home runs for Royal in a Corona del Mar tournament game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Bowers also had a two-run double.

Anthony Gallo (2-0) and Scott Rice combined on a three-hitter.

Beverly Hills 6, Channel Islands 4--Ryan Martinez had a two-run double and Junior Quintanilla had two hits and scored once for Channel Islands (4-9-1) in an Atascadero-Paso Robles tournament game.

The Raiders committed five errors that led to runs.

Grant 9, Reseda 2--Sophomore Mike Marble (2-2) pitched a four-hitter and struck out seven for the Lancers (4-11, 3-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Grant.

Mark Soulema hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to cap a seven-run inning for Grant.

Oak Park 6, Hacienda Heights Wilson 3--Jeff Smith had two hits, including his first home run, for Oak Park (4-6) in a Rowland tournament game.

Oak Park’s Derek Jacobi gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out three in his first complete game.

Oak Park lost earlier in the day, 15-4, to Rowland. Rick Spelman had two hits for the Eagles.
