Despite a relentless swirling wind at the Riviera Resort & Racquet Club in Palm Springs, Marissa Irvin of Harvard-Westlake High had little trouble in the round of 32 at the Easter Bowl Junior Championships, defeating Lori Grey, 6-2, 6-3, Monday on center court.

Irvin, top-seeded in girls’ 18, needed nearly two hours to eliminate Grey, of Seminole, Fla.

“I think both of us were having a hard time getting any type of rhythm,” Irvin said. “The wind was very strong. [But] I thought I played well in the conditions.”
