SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

An armed man and an accomplice robbed Ultra Jewelers at the Camarillo Premium Outlets on Tuesday afternoon and fled on foot, authorities said.

A helicopter and nine patrol cars searched for the men after the 3:30 p.m. holdup at 690 E. Ventura Blvd. By 9 p.m., the men remained at large and no descriptions were available. The pair got away with an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

“We didn’t see anything unusual. Actually, it was a very calm day until we got a phone call that asked us to call security,” said Jeff Michel, manager of Bose Corp., a store that sells stereo speakers next to the jewelry shop. Michel said he didn’t know who had made the request for security.

At least one handgun was displayed during the robbery, said Sgt. Larry Meyers of the Camarillo Police Department. Police said no shots were fired and no one was seriously injured.

Ultra Jewelers manager Darren Goodwin, who was not at the store when the holdup occurred, said one person reported minor injuries, but he would not provide details.

A woman at the scene was treated inside an ambulance, but no one appeared to have been transported to a hospital, the Designer Fragrances employee said.

The jewelry store closed for the day, and deputies had remained on the scene as of 9 p.m. Yellow crime-scene tape roped off the front of the store, witnesses said.

Deputies would not confirm reports that the robbers also took a surveillance tape from a security camera at the jewelry store.

Management of the Camarillo Premium Outlets did not return several calls for comment Tuesday.
