Sculptures From Gallery Grace Lawn of City Hall
Large steel and stone sculptures on loan from a West Hollywood art gallery will adorn the lawn in front of City Hall for a year, officials said Tuesday.
Eduardo Chillida’s “Stele of Gernika III,” standing 57 inches and weighing 5,000 pounds, and Isamu Noguchi’s “Integrity of Identity,” a 90-inch basalt carving, were loaned to the city by the Tasende Gallery.
Both works are owned by a private collector in Dallas and were installed at 450 N. Crescent Drive on Sunday, said Joan Simon Menkes of the city’s Fine Art Commission, which coordinated the loan.
This is the third time in several years that the art commission has brought the works of world-renowned sculptors to public spaces in Beverly Hills, Menkes said, but previous exhibits were on display for much shorter periods.
“With work of this quality and artists of this stature, I think what we’re trying to be is inspirational and educational,” she said.
