Two men identifying themselves as FBI agents handcuffed and robbed at gunpoint the tenants of an apartment early Monday, authorities said.

Police are also seeking two women who apparently befriended the male victims recently and may have helped the assailants execute the crime, said Det. Robert Johansen, of the LAPD West Valley station.

“The more I look at this . . . it appears to me they were involved to the point of setting it up,” Johansen said.

The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 18600 block of Hatteras Street, according to investigators.

The two male victims, both in their mid-20s, had just stepped out of their apartment and were walking with the two women, each about 25, according to authorities.

They were suddenly rushed by the assailants, who were dressed in dark clothing and baseball hats with the letters “FBI,” according to investigators.

The robbers, who said they were with the FBI, shoved the victims into the apartment and handcuffed them with plastic cuffs, then demanded drugs and money, Johansen said. They fled a short time later with about $3,000 worth of jewelry and cash.

The two women fled with the assailants, Johansen said.

According to investigators, the victims had recently met the women and did not know their full names.
