Maybe Dodgers Need to Make Some Changes

It seems obvious to me that I am in the minority when it comes to opinion about the recent changes that have occurred with the Dodgers. Especially those opinions expressed by Mr. Plaschke.

Clearly he is not a fan of Tom Lasorda. But nonetheless I was not expecting the vitriol that spilled out of his column on Sunday about the circumstance surrounding the Paul Konerko trade.

It was Plaschke who did the undignified thing by insulting Lasorda the way he did. Why is he so convinced that Lasorda would want to humiliate Konerko? What are the reasons? He does not give any. In fact, if the Dodgers did not happen to be playing at 3Com that day, with the configuration of the park being the way that it is (having to walk out onto the field to get to the clubhouse), then Plaschke would have had to do some actual reporting.

To not agree with Lasorda’s personnel moves is one thing, but to take a personal shot at him simply because it was a convenient thing to do just lacked taste. If Plaschke thinks someone needs a lesson in class, he should look in the mirror.

OK, let me get this straight: Tommy trades for Jeff Shaw (a great reliever who has openly admitted that his family hates California) and is not interested in remaining a Dodger, yet Mr. Lasorda gives up two promising rookies to save this season, and a subpar season at best.

Mr. Murdoch, please wake up and get a realist in the very important position of general manager. Someone who can see the future, even if it means suffering through a poor season or two. Look at the Atlanta Braves 10 years ago. They bit the bullet for a couple of seasons and are now a dynasty.

I noticed that Matt Luke went three for three with two home runs against the Cardinals recently. Maybe it’s time the Dodgers considered trading him.

Bobby Bonilla again is on the disabled list. Manager Glenn Hoffman said, “It’s too bad. He’s swinging the bat well.” What is too bad is that he’s not hitting the ball with it.

Bobby Bo would have a hard time getting a hit if he asked for one playing blackjack.

Regarding Wilton Guerrero: Fred Claire could have put this slug in a package and gotten Randy Johnson? No wonder he got fired. After Wednesday’s baserunning gem, Glenn Hoffman did not immediately bench and fine this loser? No wonder he’s gonna get fired. Lasorda says Guerrero is untouchable? Tommy, Wednesday was typical of Guerrero’s no-baseball-sense approach to the game. If you have not packaged him for the starter you need by the time this letter is printed, interim will be as high as you go.
