Students Win Medical Society Scholarships

* The Ventura County Medical Society Alliance awarded scholarships totaling $12,500 to Ventura County students who are studying for careers in the health-care industry.

The honorees are Wendy Shaw, Erika Vasko, Barbra Osborn, Marybeth Mosher, Jean Gordon, Shea Grindstaff, Karen Beatty, Megan Pence, Sherry Lewis, Wendy Christy, Nuala Kearns, Judith McGilvray, John Titus, Carolyn Hanohano, Maria J. Lopez, Sonya Garcia, Cynthia Wang, Jane C. Kim, Amelia Hunt, Tarin Tucker, Christine Ambrose, Robert Victor, Christine Cobb and Carol Chavez.

Bank Donates $1,000 for Library Programs

* The Ojai Valley Library Foundation received a $1,000 grant from Wells Fargo Bank to support the SchoolLinks Homework Centers and other library programs.

The foundation sponsors after-school homework centers at the Ojai, Meiners Oaks and Oak View libraries. The centers provide students tutorial and homework assistance and guidance in tapping electronic and print resources for school assignments.

3 Receive Scholarships for Flight Training

* The Santa Paula chapter of The Ninety-Nines, an international women’s pilot association, announced the recipients of its annual scholarship program. The winners--Kris Dawson, Tamara Frykholm and Susan Liebeler--each received a $500 award. The money will be used for their training to become licensed as a private pilot.

The association was founded in 1929 by Amelia Earhart with an original membership of 99 women.
