AML Communications in Camarillo said net sales for the first quarter ended June 30 climbed 21.6% to $3.1 million compared with $2.5 million for the same period a year earlier.

Net income for the quarter was $115,000 or 2 cents per diluted share, compared with $113,000 or 2 cents per share for the same period a year ago.

“During the quarter, the company continued to focus greater attention on marketing to original equipment manufacturers and investing in second-generation products, as well as continuing its research and development efforts,” said Jacob Inbar, president and chief executive officer.

He said results for the quarter benefited from sales of AML’s new M30 multicarrier amplifier, as well as the fulfillment of orders from an original equipment manufacturer serving the Brazilian wireless communications market. The company also was helped by shipments of wireless amplifiers to PageMart, an order received in the fourth quarter of last fiscal year.

Inbar said the company is continuing its efforts to diversify its overall customer base.

AML is in discussions with Daewoo Venture Capital and Dynamic Solutions International to establish a joint venture in South Korea.

AML designs and manufactures products for the cellular, paging and satellite communication markets.
