City Grants $118,330 to Child-Related Projects

For the sixth straight year, Irvine has awarded grant money to programs in the city that either offer recreational activities for children or provide training for parents.

The City Council allocated $118,330 to seven groups on the recommendation of the city’s Safe Community Task Force.

The largest recipient was the Irvine Public Schools Foundation, which got $36,500 to expand its after-school enrichment program.

More than $30,000 went to training--including family coaching--for parents of at-risk youths. The training is designed to help parents guide their kids toward responsible behavior.

About $22,000 went to Orange County On-Track for its Student Conflict Resolution and Mentoring Program.
