The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will receive a $5,000 grant for an elementary school curriculum, federal officials announced.

The grant, awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under the National Environmental Education Act, will enable the conservancy to train teachers and parent volunteers in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District to adapt lessons on local habitats.

The conservancy is required to raise matching funds.

“Education is the key for people to understand the world around them and make meaningful choices in their lives and communities,” Felicia Marcus, the EPA’s regional administrator in San Francisco, said in announcing this and other awards.

“These grants will help young people to a greater understanding of how we are all linked [to] and responsible for both our local and global environments,” Marcus said.
