Nearly 600 Attend Youth Fishing Rodeo
Nearly 600 children and young teenagers armed with fishing poles and bait braved the early morning fog to do battle with the wily Pacific sea bass and other sea creatures at Long Beach’s 45th annual Youth Fishing Rodeo at Belmont Pier on Friday.
Although most of the fish caught by the young anglers were tossed back into the deep, some of the luckier youths snagged catches large enough to make for a tasty dinner. The event, which began at 6:30 a.m., was open to children 15 and under.
The fishing rodeo is one of the more popular events in the monthlong International Sea Festival, said city spokeswoman Terry McAlpine.
