Man Pleads Guilty to Sexually Abusing Stepson

A 40-year-old convicted child pornographer pleaded guilty to raping his 11-year-old stepson and making him pose for photographs wearing bondage paraphernalia, authorities said Friday.

Glenn Clements sodomized his stepson and made the boy perform oral sex repeatedly over the past four years, as often as every week, at his Van Nuys home, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Jennifer Turkat, of the Van Nuys Sex Crimes, Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Unit.

Clements pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Clements threatened to hurt the boy’s mother if he did not acquiesce, Turkat said. Clements made the boy wear bondage-style spiked collars and bracelets and replicate poses he found in pornographic magazines.

On a number of occasions, he made the boy molest a 7-year-old girl when Clements baby-sat them both, the prosecutor said.

“I think it’s a miracle that it was discovered and that it stopped when it stopped,” Turkat said. Clements was arrested June 20 when sheriff’s deputies in Duarte ran a routine check of the license plate on his car as it was parked outside his now-estranged wife’s home, Turkat said. They turned up a warrant for a traffic violation.

When the officers searched Clements’ car they found a picture of a boy in bondage.

“They recognized the boy. He was playing in the front yard,” Turkat said.

The victim told authorities that he had withstood the abuse to protect his mother and in the hope that Clements would not abuse his younger sister.

A search of the defendant’s home turned up sex toys, paraphernalia, pornographic magazines, pornographic photographs of his stepson and a pornographic video of the boy, Turkat said.

Turkat said Clements worked putting together print pornographic materials at a Van Nuys firm.

Prosecutors said Clements faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life under the relatively new statute, which requires a high level of sexual contact and a 10-year age difference. He is to be sentenced later this month.

Clements was convicted in 1992 on federal charges of mailing and receiving child pornography and received an 18-month prison sentence, Turkat said.
