Fans Get Sense of Deja Blue From Dodgers’ Latest Trade

Share

Hasn’t history taught Tommy Lasorda and the Dodgers a thing? A history of overrated players like Eric Davis, Roberto Kelly and Delino DeShields acquired for prospects like John Wetteland, Henry Rodriguez and Pedro Martinez? With this most recent Dodger-Expo trade, I look forward to Guerrero, Lilly, Bergeron and Tucker becoming top players while Perez and Grudzielanek become busts.

I am so sick and tired of hearing Tom Lasorda being criticized. By acquiring Jeff Shaw, Carlos Perez and Mark Grudzielanek, the Dodgers suddenly find themselves back in the race.

Paul Konerko brings to mind another hot Dodger prospect--Greg Brock. And just because Dennis Reyes looks like Fernando, it doesn’t mean he can pitch like Fernando.

Let’s get something straight. In all the hand-wringing and finger-pointing about Tommy Lasorda’s failing to know about the supposed clause in Jeff Shaw’s contract that allows him to demand a trade after the season, I have yet to hear anyone point out that Shaw has no such clause in his contract. The fact of the matter is that any veteran who is traded in the middle of a multiyear contract can demand a trade, which makes Tommy look even sillier for not knowing a fact that any “general manager” should (and would) know.

I “guarantee” the Dodgers won’t make the playoffs, just because Tommy said it. Buffoon is spelled L-A-S-O-R-D-A.

Tommy Lasorda says he’d rather trade his wife than give up Chan Ho Park. What’s next? Tommy adopting Park and renaming him Luigi?

Ah, yes. Mike Piazza is hitting .211 with runners in scoring position, he’s being booed mercilessly by the New York fans and the Mets have stopped negotiating on a new contract. Sound vaguely familiar? My guess is, Lasorda’s on a red-eye to LaGuardia to coax poor Mike back into the fold. What better way to guarantee that the Dodgers will make the playoffs next year?
