The question July 26: Los Angeles is one of several cities wooing the Democratic Party in hopes of hosting its national convention in 2000. What other big events would you like to see held in L.A.?

They would subject us to Al Gore’s acceptance speech? Come on, guys, be nice. I’m in my young 70s and want to see someone with a little pizazz. Let the Democratic convention go to Arkansas.

We want the Summer Olympics back in L.A as soon as possible.

Try holding the Winter Olympics in Los Angeles.

Please import Philadelphia’s Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day. It’s the most beautiful, gaudy, musical march ever. I miss it.

Hold a festival similar to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival or San Diego Street Scene. We can call it Los Angeles Street Scene and Heritage Festival. What a novel concept.

L.A. should host a World’s Fair. Tear down the slums around Staples Arena to create the fairgrounds. After it’s over, the exhibition halls will form the heart of a downtown entertainment district.

I loved L.A., where I was raised, before World War II. By 1970, it was an overcrowded mess. I’d like to see a monstrous “Let’s All Go Live Somewhere Else” party, with free air fare to anywhere else for all who attend.
