Six Killed as Fire Strikes High-Rise
At least six people died when a five-alarm fire raced through a high-rise apartment building in New Jersey, police said. The fire started on the fourth floor of a 21-story apartment building in North Bergen, N.J., that housed low-income families and the elderly, a police spokesman said. “One of the dead fell from a balcony,” police Lt. Neil Sanzari said. He said firefighters were searching for the injured floor by floor. “There are 10 apartments on every floor. We’re talking about a lot of people. There are several injuries . . . more than I can even count,” he said. The fire was brought under control in two hours, he said.
