Ken Griffey Jr., stuck on 41 homers, proved once again that there’s far more to his game than power.

Griffey made a spectacular catch in center field to rob Detroit’s Luis Gonzalez of a two-run homer as the Seattle Mariners completed their first-ever four-game sweep of the Tigers with a 6-3 victory Sunday.

With the Mariners leading, 1-0, and one on in the third, Griffey raced to the wall in right-center, leaped and hauled in Gonzalez’s drive.

“That’s as good a catch as I’ve seen him make,” Mariner Manager Lou Piniella said. “It had to be perfectly timed and he snatched it a couple of rows out.”

Griffey failed to homer for the ninth consecutive game, going one for five with three strikeouts. He hasn’t homered in 42 at-bats.

Alex Rodriguez hit a tie-breaking, three-run homer in the seventh for the Mariners. He was two for three on Sunday and nine for 16 for the series
