Nancy Kaahaaina, a seventh-grade science teacher at Columbus Tustin Middle School, has won a $1,000 classroom technology award and an invitation to participate in a NASA-sponsored training program.

The California Technology Assistance Program, designed by the state Department of Education, promotes the use of technology in the classroom. The award recognizes teachers for their efforts in this area.

Kaahaaina, who will use the money to upgrade computers in her classroom, has used a variety of technological tools to teach science at Columbus Tustin.

In addition to the grant, Kaahaaina has been selected to participate in a six-week teacher training program at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., where she will work with research scientists.

“I’m primarily interested in learning about the impact being in space and weightlessness has on the human body,” she said.
