Video Camera Is ‘See-Through’ Model

Turns out Sony’s Handycam video camera works even better than those X-ray vision glasses they used to advertise in the back of comic books. The camera, with the aid of a cheap filter, can see through people’s clothing. Sony Corp. said it has stripped the feature off new versions of the camera. Shoppers were snapping up old versions after a story appeared about it in the Boston Globe. A Tokyo magazine reported that a filter costing less than $7 lets camera users see the underwear of lightly dressed people or look beneath swimsuits when the camera’s “night shot” mode is activated. The article said it was like looking through a thin curtain.
